Intralot ran at the 32nd Athens Marathon, supporting good causes

More than 600 annual marathon events are taking place around the world, each with its own unique features and attractions. However, the Athens Authentic Marathon stands out for its historic value, being the only one that follows the original route that Pheidippides followed to announce the victory of the Greeks against the Persians during the Marathon Battle in 490 BC.

Intralot participated at the 32nd Athens Authentic Marathon, which took place last Sunday, November 9. A global sports event with a social and historical character, the Athens Marathon spreads the ideals of freedom, democracy, fair play and personal excellence.

This year’s event saw the breaking of several participation and performance records. With over 35,000 runners participating across the 3 different races, a 5km , a 10km and the classic 42km main event, this year’s edition was the most successful yet, with also a record number of foreign participants. Kenyan runner Felix Kandie was the big winner of this year’s race, covering the 42 kilometers in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 36 seconds! This is a new course record, beating the record time of Italian runner Stefano Baldini from 2004.

Intralot broke its own participation record in this year’s event, with over 270 “Intralot Runners” wearing the orange t-shirt and taking part for the third consecutive year, with the aim to support the NGO “Greek Society for the Protection of Autistic People (E.E.P.A.A.)”, raise awareness and foster the participation of autistic persons in social life.

Moreover, the company organized a fund raiser on behalf of the NGO “The Smile of the Child”, through an internal betting competition on Intralot Runners, whereby corporate employees placed their bets on the runners. The scope of this initiative was to support the activities of “The Smile of the Child” towards defending the rights of children, and provide them the necessary physical, mental and spiritual balance.

Intralot Group CEO, Mr. Constantinos Antonopoulos, ran the Athens Marathon race of 42km for the 9th consecutive year, and had this to comment after crossing the finish line: “We are very happy to participate at this big celebration. Intralot Runners surpassed themselves and revealed the power of the human mind over the human body. I would like to congratulate them all for their participation and their will to support two wonderful causes, the work of E.E.P.A.A. and the Smile of The Child”.
