Gaming Forum 2012

A two-day event full of innovative ideas & gaming trends, supported by Intralot

Pioneering gaming ideas, state-of-the-art prototypes and the new trends of the Gaming industry were revealed at the 1st Gaming Forum in Athens, Greece, on April 27 & 28, held by the Athens Information Technology (AIT) and co-organized with the British Council. Intralot was the Gold Sponsor of the Forum that sets the basis of an annual event dedicated to gaming innovation and gamification.

Game developers, industry professionals, academics and pure gaming enthusiasts came together in two days of learning, networking, socializing and game-playing. Mr. Gregory Yovanof, Associate Dean of ΑΙΤ, stated: “We had a large variety of entertainment and educational games, for mobile and web, for one and multiple players, and also participants from abroad.”

During the award ceremony of the Gaming Contest, Dr. Babis Karathanasis, Intralot’s Multimedia Systems Director, granted the Popular Choice Award to the winning team, S. Retalis, G. Keselopoulos and A. Terzakis, whose pioneering idea was selected from a short list of gaming ideas open for public voting through social media, and stated: “Our decision to support the Gaming Contest is part of Intralot’s strategy to always embrace the best of human capital, providing opportunities to talented and highly skilled individuals. The winning idea was developed by a dedicated team, who has visualized and designed an e-learning board game, “eLBorG”, which fosters students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination through a variety of learning activities”.

During the Forum, Dr. Karathanasis addressed technical challenges faced when deploying games that are based on rich multimedia content in social venues and presented games suitable for social venues, including Intralot’s Monitor Games class of games. The enabling technological solutions of Intralot for supporting such games, namely, content delivery, display and management, were also presented. Moreover, Dr. Christos Dimitriadis, Head of Information Security of Intralot, underlined the importance of game integrity, player privacy and service continuity in terms of achieving player trust and social responsibility. The most recent threat types in gaming and virtual worlds in general were also explained, demonstrating a holistic technical and procedural framework based on international standards and industry-specific good practices.
